The girl who played with fire

Yasmine Garbi as the love interest Miriam Wu of Lisbeth Salander played by Noomi Rapace whom you may remember from Aeon Flux. In this part two of the Millenium series trilogy by Stieg Larsson I have to admit although there is still a high amount of drama I didn’t enjoy it as much as The [...]

District 9

Stalled in Johannesburg  extra terrestrials finally get it back together to get it back out into space and the machinations of the authorities who want part of it. Told like a documentary, shades of Ironman and Robocop, great stuff!

Headhunter

Charlotte Munck in this story that attempts to describe the succession in the family owned company Sieger, very closely resembling Denmark’s largest concern: Maersk, and doesn’t do a bad job of it in what otherwise seems like a really well done made for tv thriller.

Inglourious Basterds

Diane Kruger in what is undoubtedly a masterpiece to quote Light Nykorchuk. Phillip French’s review led me to expect disappointment after chapter one, but I liked it all the way through. Didn’t get to read all the credits because had to hop to another film starting right after.

Away we go

Maya Rudolph in this Sam Mendes piece partly written by Dave Eggers.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1176740/

Hush little baby

Four girls take off from a treatment centre and the hijinks that follow, Danish language production. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1337060/

Omaret yakobean / Yaoubiam Building

Jihan Qamary and Adel Imam in this Egyptian story about the interwoven lives of people who live in a building that has seen better days, much like some of the people in it. Reminded me of the film `Shortcuts` as if made in Bollywood. Some of the cuts were a little jumpy but a great [...]

Bruno

I was a little disappointed that they didn’t show the one baby dressed as a Nazi prison guard pushing the other baby in a pushchair into a prisoncamp after the big buildup but other moments clearly did not let down.  This film has something for everyone to get outraged about.

The Hangover

Heather Graham in what is actually a really funny film.

Jaffa

Dana Ivgy in a story of a Jewish Israeli mechanic’s daughter who falls for an Arab Israeli mechanic in the shop where they all work. Decent film with some sad moments and ending with a ray of hope for the lives of these people. A microcosmic reflection of events in this part of the world.
