Sex and the City

I’ve been to see a few movies where it was this crowded but this one was difficult to find a seat at. Some radio station was doing a promotion and they had had a pre event party in the cafe bar. They had a yellow cab parked out front with the radio van not a [...]

How to lose friends and alienate people

I just finished reading this book after reading Toby Young and about  Toby Young for years. I look forward to its release.

What happens in Vegas

Chick flick that almost made me ovulate. In fact at one point I thought this movie is really really gay and as it happens the climax of the movie was filmed at Fire island. However despite some cringe inducing moments it was also genuinely funny in parts. For tech product placement it looked like everyone [...]

Dangerous parking

This film was amazing, at first i wasn’t sure but then I became convinced. But a word of warning not for the faint hearted. Not because it is some torture porn special but because it is based on a true story and has a pretty much no holds barred approach to demonstrating some raw emotion. [...]

Cassandra’s dream

Woody Allen keeps it dark and in England. Score by Phillip Glass which helps. Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor play a couple of brothers who are in the lurch financially after business venture failures and losing at cards. Some really brilliant British actors in this film.

The man without a past

I saw this film from 2002 by Aki Kaurismaati this evening at the language school and it is quietly very funny. I haven’t thought of what it reminds me of yet other than my own upbringing in Scandinavia but there are some definite cinematic moments. A man who has lost his memory gets back on [...]

Indiana Jones

I liked the part with the motorcycle boy at Yale apart from that the midweek midnight preview of this film didn’t do loads for me. Maybe I just don’t ‘get’ it. I liked it enough to snooze through most of it. The dominatrix was good too.

Mongol

This film was made in China, Kazakhstan and Russia. The cinematography is amazing. If you don’t know the story of Genghis Khan this film will fill in some of the gaps.

The Godfather

Saw this tonight on the Big screen.

Nadine Labaki’s directorial debut which she also acts in. Lebanon’s official entry to the 08 Academy Awards. Made with French seed money. I wonder if the window we have seen open for a couple of good films from Lebanon has just closed again with events as they have been there recently.
